Jim Long is Lead Director and Head of Distribution for the AXA U.S. Employee Benefits business.
AXA recently launched its new Employee Benefits business in the U.S. After extensive research and feedback from the market, AXA brought together technology and dedicated professionals to make the employee benefits experience powerfully simple. The comprehensive suite of insurance products, including dental, vision, life, short- and long-term disability, deductible insurance, hospital-plus and critical illness, is designed for small- to medium-sized businesses with 20 to 500 employees.
Long leads the creation of AXA’s national and regional structure for distributing AXA’s employee benefits products and services to independent brokers, general agents and AXA’s retail network of AXA Advisors, LLC. financial professionals. He is responsible for optimizing strategic distribution partnerships, including private exchanges, health plans, and professional employer organizations.
Long is a 30-year employee benefits industry veteran. Prior to joining AXA in 2014, he was vice president of Global Relationship Management at MetLife Global Employee Benefits, responsible for developing and expanding key brokerage and consulting relationships outside the U.S. Previously, he was worldwide multinational director of MetLife’s Multinational Solutions. He was appointed to that position in 2010 after MetLife’s acquisition of Alico. He led the integration of the merged Alico and MetLife teams within MAXIS, a joint venture between AXA S.A. and MetLife, and was a member of the MAXIS Global Benefits Management Committee.
Prior to joining MetLife, Long was worldwide multinational director of AIG Global Benefits from 2002-2010. From 1999-2002, he was a principal of global sales with Mercer Consulting.
From 1986 to 1999, Long was head of Multinational Employee Benefits for Winterthur Americas, establishing their entry and presence in the U.S. market. He was co-creator of the Winterthur Global Funds in 1988, a Luxembourg Investment vehicle for cross-border pensions. Long helped establish the strategic partnership known as the AIG/WIN Alliance in 1990 and was a member of their Management Board. After Winterthur was acquired by Credit Suisse in 1996, he led a joint development team within Credit Suisse to join Employee Benefits and Asset Management sales efforts for multinational companies.
Long holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Resource Economics from the University of New Hampshire.
